Summer calls to consciousness all imagery and feelings of abandon, freedom and the delicious indulgence of simply living moment to moment. Traditionally the time of vacations and legitimate breaks from the day to day of work and school, summer is a time when many of of truly thrive within our bodies. With the 2020 pandemic fading ever into the rearview, Summer is our opportunity to get back out there and make the most of every single breath.
SKIN: Summer skin can be tricky. While it’s tempting to hurl your body into the summer sun without a care in the world, most of us understand and appreciate the need for a good sunblock. Make sure you’re rocking an SPF at all times, even on your lips! Choose the sunscreen (physical or chemical) that agrees with your skin type, and be diligent about protecting your biggest organ. You’ve only got the one body. Take care of it.
Now is also to the time to consider switching your skincare to a lighter, more season-friendly formula. If you have oily skin, an aloe-based cleanser and moisturizer can do wonders for you skin by keeping it hydrated without encouraging it to produce more oil. If you have traditionally dry skin, consider a serum to keep your skin from getting parched but still allow your pores to breathe.
NUTRITION: There is so much delicious food in season! Now is the time to take advantage of watermelon, which is plentiful and full of amazing minerals to help hydrate and balance you from the inside out. Apricots are abundant, and taste amazing in a salad, a smoothie, and even roasted with sweet potatoes and pineapples for a delicious twist! Peaches and Nectarines are plentiful too! Dig into pineapple, papaya and mango for the sweetest Vitamin C and antioxidant boost! Now is the time to crunch down on asparagus and reap the benefits of fiber, folate, and Vitamins A, C and K. Pile your plates high with blackberries, blueberries and boysenberries. There is no shortage of fruits and vegetables available to help you make the most of your health and wellness in delicious fashion.
FITNESS: Great weather means more opportunities to get out there and move your body! You don’t have to be confined to your home or a gym or studio to get a good workout. Now is the time for the longest walks, jogs in the early morning or early evening, yoga in the park or at the beach… the possibilities are endless. Your workouts don’t have to be expensive or complicated to be effective. Move your body in a way that feels safe and good to you. Every body is different, and the more you pay attention to what you need, the better you’ll be able to take steps toward your overall health and wellness.
